The first ship of the newly founded shipping company was the former Bergensfjord , which was put into service as Argentina . After the line service to New York was initially the focus of the shipping company, the Home Lines ships were mainly used for cruises from the mid-1960s .

It was not until 1965 that the shipping company's first new building, the Oceanic, was put into service. With the Atlantic and the Homeric , further large newbuildings followed in 1982 and 1986. In 1988 Home Lines was taken over by Holland America Line and dissolved that same year.
