Days Go By (. English for " day pass ") is the ninth studio album of American punk rock - band The Offspring . It was released on June 26, 2012 via Columbia Records and Sony Music .

Emergence

During the tour of the previous album Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace , the band began to write material for the album. Already in May 2009 the collaboration with Bob Rock for the next album was announced in an interview . Front man Dexter Holland also said in another interview that they wanted to try not to take that long again until the next album was released. Preparatory work began in autumn 2009, but there were only a few demo recordings at that time . In mid-2010 the band had already moved on and worked in the studio. However, the originally planned release date of 2010 could not be kept. However, the band praised the collaboration with Bob Rock:

“Working with Bob Rock has been the best experience that we had in the studio. Bob is obviously a great producer, but beyond that Bob and we get along and sort of see the record making process similarly ... the songs sometimes take a little longer to finish but the end result is far better for taking the time and is something we're very proud of. "

With Pete Parada a new drummer can be heard on the album. Some pieces were also recorded by session drummer Josh Freese , who worked for the band on the previous albums.

Kai Butterweck from laut.de sees the album split. On the one hand, titles like Cruising California or OC Guns are “trimmed for young hops” and “superficial cerebral excursions”, but he praises the arrangements and says “that they [The Offspring] are no more ahead of established mid-tempo broadband rock music. Colleagues have to hide. "( Kai Butterweck : criticism on laut.de )

Matthias Reichel awards 6.5 out of 10 points on cdstarts.de and sees the album in line with previous releases. He concludes that The Offspring present a “routine album”, “which of course can no longer compete with the youthful energy of their early works, but is still more relevant than the large number of publications in the punk rock sector.” ( Matthias Reichel : Critique on cdstarts.de )

Peter Ehmann paints a somewhat more positive picture on Undergrounded.de: on “Days Go By” you have “... actually only punk anthems with catchy tunes. Some of them only become apparent after listening to them a second time, but you can already sing along with the chorus. "(Rating 8 out of 10 points)
