Splinter (. English for " splitter ") is the seventh studio album of American punk rock - band The Offspring . It was released on December 9, 2003 on the Columbia Records label .

Origin and production

The band started working on Splinter in late 2002 after touring their previous album Conspiracy of One for two years . From January to August 2003 - the longest recording time until then - it was recorded again with music producer Brendan O'Brien . This time, however, other recording studios were used in Los Angeles and Atlanta . Since drummer Ron Welty had left the band, Josh Freese was chosen as a studio drummer to look for a replacement after the recordings. On April 1, 2003, the album was jokingly announced as Chinese Democrazy , a parody of the rock band Guns N 'Roses' long-awaited album Chinese Democracy .

Cover design

The album cover shows an ancient white stone statue whose head is just splintering. A landscape, a stone column and a dark blue sky can be seen in the background. At the top of the picture are the lettering The Offspring and Splinter in white or gray.
