Brendan O'Brien (music producer)

Brendan O'Brien (born June 23, 1960 in Atlanta ) is an American record producer , sound engineer and musician . He started playing guitar in a cover band in Atlanta at the age of 14 before making a name for himself as a studio musician. He was briefly the bass player for the Georgia Satellites .

Life

O'Brien is one of the most important producers of the 1990s. His breakthrough came in 1990 with the Black Crowes ' first album , on which he played and recorded. He is also called "Mr. Grunge ”because at the beginning of his career he mainly worked with bands from Seattle . O'Brien's production method is characterized by meticulous bass and drum recording and editing. The result is a powerful rock sound that has its role models in productions such as those by Jimmy Page for Led Zeppelin . The hooklines are also neatly worked out, which is currently reflected in 14 number one hits and two Grammy awards. After working for Geffen Records in the early 1990s as the sound engineer for legendary producer Rick Rubin , he became Epic's vice president in the middle of the decade .

O'Brien has worked with Audioslave , Rage Against the Machine , Billy Talent , Soundgarden , Pearl Jam , Stone Temple Pilots , Neil Young , Our Lady Peace , Aerosmith , Incubus , The Wallflowers , Limp Bizkit , Red Hot Chili Peppers , KoЯn , The Black Crowes , Aimee Mann , King's X , Papa Roach , Bruce Springsteen , AC / DC , Killswitch Engage and Mastodon .
