Smash (. English for " Crash ", " blow ") is the third studio album of American punk rock - band The Offspring and was on April 8, 1994 on the label Epitaph Records released. It has sold over eleven million copies worldwide to date, making it the best-selling album released on an independent label .

background

Smash was produced by music producer Thom Wilson and recorded at Track Record Studios in North Hollywood . According to Dexter Holland , the album was completed within three weeks and cost $ 20,000. The vocals were recorded last. The band was particularly quick to record because they had the opportunity to support the punk band Pennywise and they wanted to go on tour as soon as possible.

Music genre

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic describes the album as "heavy, no matter how much the band claims to be punk." They are slower than hardcore punk and their attacks are as hard as Metallica's .

Cover design

The album cover is kept in yellow tones. It shows the upper body and skull of a skeleton, reminiscent of an X-ray . At the top of the picture is the white lettering Offspring and at the bottom the title Smash in red.
