Kingdom Come was in the United States , founded hard rock - band , by the German singer Lenny Wolf was launched.
history
Kingdom Come emerged in 1987 from the band Stone Fury , which released the two albums Burns Like a Star (1984) and Let Them Talk (1986) in the mid-1980s . Singer Lenny Wolf started a new band with Kingdom Come after the band ended. In addition to Wolf, the two guitarists Danny Stag and Rick Steier, bassist Johnny B. Frank and drummer James Kottak belonged to the original line-up.
From the beginning, the band was compared to Led Zeppelin , not least because of the similarity of the voices of Robert Plant and Lenny Wolf. On the American edition of the 1988 Monsters of Rock tour, Kingdom Come opened the evenings for Metallica , the Scorpions and the headliners Van Halen . This was followed by a support tour for Bon Jovi and Ratt through Japan and a tour of England in the opening act for Magnum .
A year later, the band came up with their second album. In Your Face could not quite build on the success of the debut in the USA, but made it to number 49 on the charts. Another USA tour supporting Whitesnake , Cheap Trick and Fleetwood Mac cemented the band's status, but the band structure was still boiling. In August 1989, Kingdom Come finally broke up. James Kottak eventually joined the Scorpions years later.
For the third album, Wolf worked with session musicians. The guitarists Blues Saraceno , Bert Meulendijk and Marco Moir can be heard on Hands of Time as well as the drummers Steve Burke and Jimmy Bralower. Lenny Wolf returned in 1993 with the fourth album Bad Image , his band now consisted exclusively of German musicians.
In the following years, Kingdom Come released new albums, but were less and less noticed by the public. The band consisted more or less only of Lenny plus rental musicians. With the album Perpetual (2004), Wolf did everything on his own.
In 2001 Lenny Wolf was part of the German Rock Stars project , which released the single Wings of Freedom on the occasion of the September 11th terrorist attacks .
In February 2005, Kingdom Come planned to return to America for the first time in over ten years, but the tour had to be canceled due to visa problems. Another album, Ain't Crying for the Moon , was released in 2006. In November of the same year Kingdom Come was on a tour of Russia with 11 concerts and a television appearance as well as one appearance each in Kiev , Ukraine , and Almaty , Kazakhstan .
The album Outlier , released in spring 2013, was produced by Lenny Wolf in his home studio. Lenny Wolf is devoted to issues such as the abuse of religious intentions ( God Does Not Sing Our Song ) and is critical of political correctness.
After reuniting with former bassist Jonny B. Frank and former guitarist Danny Stag in 2015 and performing live on Monster of Rock Cruise California in February 2016, Lenny Wolf decided in August 2016 to disband Kingdom Come after 30 years. A complete reunion as planned was no longer possible.
successes
Their debut album, named after them, became a success, not least because of the press hype, and reached number 12 in the US charts. In the same year, the band received a gold record in America for over half a million records sold. The second album In Your Face was also a success for the band. Number 49 in the US charts as well as a number of concerts consolidated the band's status before Kingdom Come lost its importance over the years.
criticism
While the press initially celebrated the band as the ultimate Led Zeppelin successor, there was massive criticism, not least from prominent figures. For example, Gary Moore released a song called Led Clones on his 1989 album After the War , sung by Ozzy Osbourne , in which the group is accused of stealing in the "houses of the saints" (text: " You've stolen from the houses of the holy ”, an allusion to the Led Zeppelin album of the same name). Dee Snider, singer of Twisted Sister , also recorded the song Uh Huh Huh for his band Desperado as a reaction to Kingdom Come , which however only appeared on his solo album Never Let the Bastards Wear You Down in 2000 .
