Garage Inc. is a compilation album by the US heavy metal band Metallica . It was released on November 24, 1998 and contains only cover versions . The album consists of two CDs: the first CD contains only newly recorded songs by other artists. On the second CD, however, you can find the complete EP from Garage Days Re-Revisited from 1987 as well as all songs previously covered and published for B-sides or sampler contributions .

- Discharge's two songs - Free Speech for the Dumb and The More I See - come from the band's early days. The former was released on the debut album Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing , the latter as a single in 1984.
- Sabbra Cadabra contains in the middle (2:52 - 5:04 min.) An excerpt from A National Acrobat , after which the song is continued with Sabbra Cadabra . Both songs come from the 1973 album Sabbath Bloody Sabbath .
- Turn the Page reached # 1 on the Billboard Charts for "Mainstream Rock Tracks" and # 39 for "Modern Rock Tracks". In Germany the single reached # 23 in the charts.
- Die, Die My Darling was also released as a single and reached # 26 on the Billboard charts.
- The medley Mercyful Fate consists of the songs Satan's Fall , Curse of the Pharaohs , A Corpse without Soul , Into the Coven and Evil . Except for A Corpse Without Soul from the 1982 EP Mercyful Fate (sometimes also known as Nuns Have No Fun or Corpse Without a Soul ), all other songs are from Mercyful Fate's debut album Melissa (1983).
- Whiskey in the Jar is the oldest song Metallica have ever covered. It is an Irish folk song that was best known again through the band The Dubliners . Metallica related the cover to the Thin Lizzy version from 1972. The single reached # 4 on the Billboard charts. Metallica won a Grammy Award in the category "Best Hard Rock Performance" with this song . The single reached # 23 in Germany. The Australian edition of the Whiskey in the Jar single includes Pt. 1 & 2 a making-of of the album.
- Tuesday's Gone was recorded in 1997 during the promotion of ReLoad in the studios of the radio station KSJO-FM ( San José (California) ). In addition to Metallica, you can hear John Popper ( Blues Traveler ), Jerry Cantrell and Sean Kinney (both Alice in Chains ), Les Claypool from Primus , Pepper Keenan ( Corrosion of Conformity ), Jim Martin (ex-member of Faith No More ) and also a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd himself: Gary Rossington .

- The first five songs were as Garage Days Re-Revisited - EP already published 1987th The EP is rare, a CD version was released under the name The $ 9.98 CD . Numerous bootlegs were published in advance.
- Am I Evil? and Blitzkrieg are the band's first published covers and appeared on the 12-inch of Creeping Death . A CD version also contained the single Jump in the Fire .
- Breadfan and The Prince were the B-side of the English Harvester of Sorrow single. The Prince was also released as a bonus track on the Japanese edition of … And Justice for All .
- Stone Cold Crazy comes from the sampler Elektra's 40th Anniversary , the anniversary compilation by Elektra Records .
- So What and Killing Time come from the Unforgiven single.
- The Motörhead covers come from the Hero of the Day single, released under the name Motörheadache , which was released on the occasion of Lemmy Kilmister's 50th birthday.

Garage Inc. entered the German charts at number 1 on December 7, 1998 and was in the top 100 for a total of 43 weeks. The album also topped the charts in Finland, Sweden and Norway.
Garage Inc. earned 5 platinum records for more than five million units sold in the United States in 2000 .
