A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica is a two-part documentary that shows the production of the album Metallica by the metal band of the same name as well as the subsequent Wherever We May Roam tour. The 1992 on VHS documentation published was produced by Juliana Roberts and Jack Gulick, directed by Adam Dublin. This is the band's first release to feature a redesigned logo that was used until 2000 .
Volume 1
The first part, which lasts 90 minutes, shows the creation of Metallica 's fifth studio album. The band was filmed listening to demo recordings , mixing , mastering and video shoots. The video sequences used for this were recorded over a period of more than nine months.

Volume 2
In the second part of the documentary, Metallica was accompanied by the camera team on the Wherever We May Roam Tour following the album release and the Guns N 'Roses / Metallica Stadium Tour organized together with Guns N' Roses . It includes, for example, recordings from Donington from the Monsters of Rock 1991 , a Freddie Mercury tribute concert and a performance in front of an estimated 500,000 visitors at Tuschino airfield , Moscow in the former Soviet Union .
