The River Winster is a river in Cumbria , England . The Winster was the historic border between the historic counties of Lancashire and Westmorland .

The Winster rises in the Lake District on the mountains between the towns of Winster and Bowness-on-Windermere . The river flows south past the settlements of Ludderburn, Hartbarrow and Bowland Bridge. At Bridge House the river turns into a valley between the Whitbarrow and the Cartmel Fell . To the west of the settlement of Strickland Hill and east of the settlement of Low Tarn Green, the river widens to form the Helton Tarn . The river flows past the towns of Meathop and Lindale before flowing east of Grange-over-Sands into the mouth of the River Kent at Morecambe Bay .
