Bowness-on-Windermere is a town of 3800 in Cumbria , on the shores of Windermere , the largest lake in England. The place is a popular tourist destination - mainly because of its location right on the lake. But the writer Beatrix Potter also attracts visitors, although she had no direct relationship with the place.
The municipality of Bowness-on-Windermere has been associated with that of Windermere since 1905 . Since 1974 the two places have also formed a civil parish .
