Location of Westmorland

Westmorland is one of England's 39 traditional counties . Major towns in the county are Ambleside , Appleby-in-Westmorland (the administrative headquarters), Kendal , Kirkby Stephen , Milnthorpe and Windermere . Westmorland includes large parts of the Lake District National Park .

In 1974 Westmorland was combined with Cumberland and parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire to form the new county of Cumbria .

Unlike most other counties in dog reds were divided into two Westmorland was Baron machinations (Engl. Baronies (sometimes Appleby) and Kendal, divided), Westmorland. These in turn consisted of two wards each : East was and West was in Westmorland and Kendal was and Lonsdale was in Kendal.

Westmorland continues to be used as an area name. There is the Westmorland Gazette , the Westmorland County Agricultural Show and a Westmorland Shopping Center .
