Herefordshire [ hɛɹɪfədʃə ] is a county in the region West Midlands in England . Herefordshire is bordered by the counties of Shropshire to the north, Worcestershire to the east, Gloucestershire to the south-east and the Welsh counties of Gwent to the south-west and Powys to the west.

history

In 1974 the county was combined with Worcestershire to form the joint county of Hereford and Worcester . At that time the districts of South Herefordshire, Hereford and parts of Malvern Hills and Leominster existed in the area of the current county.

On April 1, 1998, the administrative reform was reversed and the county was transferred to an independent area of a city district without further districts ( unitary authority ). The official name of the Unitary Authority is County of Herefordshire .

Herefordshire is a very rural county that lives mainly from fruit growing.
