North Lincolnshire is an administrative unit ( Unitary Authority ) in England on the south side of the estuary of the River Humber .
The borough is predominantly characterized by agricultural land on both sides of the River Trent . It is bordered by North East Lincolnshire , Lincolnshire, and North Yorkshire . North Lincolnshire is administratively independent and only belongs to ceremonial occasions for the county of Lincolnshire.
Until 1996, the area of North Lincolnshire belonged to the 1974 county of Humberside . There are three major towns in the borough, Scunthorpe , the administrative seat, Barton-upon-Humber and Brigg .
