County Durham is a unitary authority in County Durham in England . The administrative seat is the city of Durham .
The Unitary Authority County Durham was formed on April 1, 2009 from the non-metropolitan County Durham . At the same time, the seven districts of Derwentside , Chester-le-Street , City of Durham , Easington , Sedgefield , Wear Valley and Teesdale were dissolved and their competencies were transferred to the County Durham Council ( Durham County Council ). Since then, the ceremonial county of Durham has consisted of the Unitary Authorities Counties Durham, Hartlepool and Darlington and the area of the Unitary Authority Stockton-on-Tees , which is north of the Tees .
