Derwentside was a district in Durham , England , named after the River Derwent . The administrative seat was the city of Consett . Other important places in the former district were Lanchester and Stanley . There was a city partnership with Werdohl in Germany.
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and resulted from the merger of the Urban Districts Consett and Stanley and the Rural District Lanchester. On April 1, 2009, all Dictricts in County Durham were abolished in addition to Derwentside and merged into the Unitary Authority Durham .
