Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole , or BCP for short, is a unitary authority in the ceremonial county of Dorset in England .

history

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole was formed on April 1, 2019 on the basis of an ordinance issued in May 2018 and emerged from the merger of the Unitary Authorities Bournemouth and Poole with the Christchurch district in the administrative county of Dorset . Their establishment was part of a restructuring of Dorset, in which at the same time the remaining five districts were combined into another unitary authority and thus the existing administrative county was dissolved.

Politics and administration

The unitary authority's parliament will be a 76-member council that will be elected for the first time on May 2, 2019. Due to its size, it is meeting at Bournemouth University until further notice . Graham Farrant is in charge of administration.

The communities (made in the field of BCP Parishes ) Burton and Winkton , Christchurch , Highcliffe and Walkford , Holdenhurst and Hurn , but a total of only affect a small part of the area. The much larger one, comprising the cities of Bournemouth and Poole, is an unparished area outside of this system. This means that they do not have a city council, the tasks assigned to the parishes are carried out here by the Unitary Authority. Instead, a charter trust was set up in each case , through which the MPs elected to the BCP council in the electoral districts there keep in trust the historic title of Borough and the rights conferred with it and, among other things, have the opportunity to elect a mayor for ceremonial functions .
