Wear Valley was a district in County Durham in England . The administrative seat was the city of Crook . Other important places in the former district were Bishop Auckland and Willington .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and resulted from the merger of the urban districts Bishop Auckland, Crook and Willington and Tow Law , and the rural district Weardale . It was named after the River Wear . On April 1, 2009, in addition to Wear Valley, all Dictricts in County Durham were abolished as part of the administrative reform and merged into the Unitary Authority Durham .
There was a town partnership with Bad Oeynhausen .
