Humberside [ ˈhʌmbəsaɪd ] was a county in England from 1974 to 1996 .

Humberside was formed in 1974 around the mouth of the Humber with parts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire . The administrative seat was in Beverley , the largest city in the county was Kingston upon Hull . It consisted of the districts of Beverley, Boothferry , Cleethorpes , East Yorkshire , Glanford , Great Grimsby , Holderness and Scunthorpe . Humberside bordered North Yorkshire to the north and west, South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshirein the south-west, on Lincolnshire in the south and on the North Sea in the east.

In 1996 the county was dissolved again. It was replaced by four Unitary Authorities : Kingston-upon-Hull , East Riding of Yorkshire (from Beverley, East Yorkshire, Holderness and the northern part of Boothferry), North Lincolnshire (from Glanford, Scunthorpe and the southern part of Boothferry) and North East Lincolnshire (from Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes). Despite the dissolution, the term "Humberside" is still used today. There is also the Humberside Police, a Humberside Airport , the Humberside Fire Service and BBC Radio Humberside.
