Huntingdonshire ( Hunts for short ) was one of England's 39 traditional counties ; today Huntingdonshire is a district of the county of Cambridgeshire .

history

The county of Huntingdonshire was the third smallest county in England and was combined with the Soke of Peterborough to form the new county of Huntingdon and Peterborough in 1965 . 1974 Huntingdonshire was assigned to the county of Cambridgeshire , initially as District Huntingdon ; the district has had its current name since 1984.

Huntingdonshire is still considered a county by many today. Although the counties of Rutland and Herefordshire were restored during local government reform in the 1990s, the current status of Huntingdonshire remained.

The current district does not exactly align with the county's traditional boundaries. The place Fletton belongs today to the City of Peterborough , Everton to Bedfordshire ; also Swineshead is managed from there. In return , Huntingdonshire received Eaton Ford and Eaton Socon from Bedfordshire. The administrative headquarters are in Huntingdon .
