Milnthorpe is a larger village in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria in England . Historically, it is part of Westmorland and is on either side of the A6 road. The village has several old inns and hosts a market every Friday which takes place in the market square called The Sqare. According to the 2001 census, the place had 2106 inhabitants.

history

Milnthorpe is the site of a 19th century church, St. Thomas, which was built overlooking The Green and The Square. Before it was built, Milnthorpe was part of the parish of Heversham. Originally a port, Milnthorpe was a business center with the Bela River and the inlet, which is now only navigable as far as Arnside , and remains a major trading center in the region to this day . The local industry includes Duralon Combs, a 300 year old family-owned comb manufacturer, and Big Fish Internet Ltd., the UK's first web design agency, founded in 1996.
