Tebay is a place in what is now Cumbria in North West England with 728 inhabitants (2001). The place traditionally belonged to the county of Westmorland .
The place was since 1844 on the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway and from here their railway line branched off to Ingleton , which was set in 1963. The place also had a train station from 1852 to July 1, 1968. The Tebay station was from 1861 to 1962, the starting point, originally from the South Durham and Lancashire Union Railway operated line to the Stockton and Darlington Railway in Bishop Auckland . Steam locomotives in support of trains at Shap Summit were stationed in Tebay . The West Coast Main Line passes the place today. The Tebay Service rest area and exit J38 of the Motorway M6 are also in the immediate vicinity .
