Beyond Magnetic is an EP by the US metal band Metallica that was released digitally on December 14, 2011. The album contains four songs that were recorded for Metallica's ninth studio album Death Magnetic (2008). However, they had been deleted from the final version of the album and thus never released. However, the songs were recycled at Metallica's thirtieth anniversary celebration, which took place on four evenings between December 5 and 10, 2011, and performed live for the first time. The EP was released only a few days later. However, weeks later, Metallica announced on their website that the EP would also be released in CD format on January 27, 2012. Reasons for the republication were that one wanted to stick to the principles.

reception

In the Metal Hammer Matthias Weckmann said that there were reasons why the songs didn’t make it on Death Magnetic and that the band’s short duration would be the spice of the moment. He awarded five out of seven points. Ronny Bittner of Rock Hard said that the quality of the songs was not very different from Death Magnetic , but criticized the Loudness War production by Rick Rubin . He awarded seven out of ten points. Ulf Kubanke from Laut.de was of the opinion that Beyond Magnetic would come around the corner a lot livelier than the mother album, which had only partially convinced him. It awarded three out of five stars. No singles were released. However, the song Hate Train made it to number 30 in the Austrian single charts.
