Frantic ( English for: "beside itself / hectic" ) is a song by the US metal band Metallica . The song is the second single from their ninth studio album St. Anger and was released on September 15, 2003.

The song is told from the perspective of a lyric self looking back on its life and wondering if it would make better use of the wasted days and find the right way if it had the chance again. It is constantly on the lookout and has a hectic life. At the end of the song, the Buddhist concept of suffering ( dukkha ) is taken up: “ Birth is suffering, life is suffering, death is suffering. "

The lyrics of the song were written by James Hetfield , Lars Ulrich , Kirk Hammett and Bob Rock . Metallica also worked with Bob Rock on production.
Music video
In which to Frantic in July 2003 in Montreal , Canada turned music video led Wayne Isham directed. It shows a man who is in a car accident when he drives through a red light and overturns. A review of the man's life is now shown, which is characterized by alcohol, smoking, parties and fleeting sexual acquaintances. In between you can see the band playing in front of a pile of junk. At the end of the video you can see the man laughing upside down in the car because he is still alive, but then a second vehicle rams the car and the picture goes black.

Frantic entered the German single charts at number 27 on September 29, 2003, reached the highest position in the following week at number 21 and stayed in the top 100 for six weeks. The single was particularly successful in Spain (number 2), Finland ( 4th place), Norway (5th place) and Denmark (6th place).
