All Nightmare Long (English for: " The whole nightmare ") is a song by the US metal band Metallica from the album Death Magnetic . It was released on December 15, 2008 as the band's forty-fourth single .

The song was played live for the first time at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary , Alberta , Canada .

Music video

The music video first aired on December 7, 2008, on Metallica.com and Yahoo Video . The video does not show the band, but a fictional Soviet newsreel about the infamous Tunguska event in 1908. Spores of an unknown species are discovered that can revive the dead. The Soviets are using this as a weapon to turn the tide of the Cold War against the United States . To let a balloon over North America to fly, which is distributed there the spores and a zombie - apocalypse triggers. The Americans try to fight the plague with fire, but this shows little success. The Soviets offer their help, but it will take days. In the end, they spray the antidote in America, clean up everything, and so take over America.

Versions of the single CD

The single was released in three different versions. The first is a digipak with the studio version of the song All Nightmare Long , and the songs Wherever I May Roam and Master of Puppets live in Berlin. The second version also contains the studio version of the song All Nightmare Long . Furthermore, the songs Blackened and Seek & Destroy , also recorded live in Berlin, are on the single. Also in the third version is the studio version of the song All Nightmare Long on the single. It comes with a DVD with a 10-minute mini documentary about the day of the band in Berlin together with 20 minutes of live excerpts from the album release party and 15 minutes from the rehearsal room at the Festival Rock im Park 2008.
