Enter Sandman (English for about. " The Sandman occurs ") is a song by American Metal band Metallica , which on the album Metallica (also Black Album called) from the year 1991 has been published. The song is one of her best-known recordings, with a significant riff running through the entire song and the dark story of a child who is dreaded falling asleep and the horrific nightmares that come with it. The Sandman to be defeated , who, according to legend, puts sand in the eyes of children so that they fall asleep, is symbolic of this. In the Bridge , lead singer James Hetfield and the son of producer Bob Rock both recite the English-speaking children's prayer Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep , which can also be found at the beginning of Megadeth's song Go to Hell .

The song is part of the standard repertoire of Metallica appearances and was recorded as the first encore for the S&M album with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra (under the direction of Michael Kamen ) .

At home games of the New York Yankees baseball team, the song was played as an appearance song for pitcher Mariano "The Sandman" Rivera.

Emergence

The song went through a lot of changes before it finally appeared on the album. The theme of the play was eventually changed from cot death to something more commercially viable (like nightmares ). The structure of the riff has changed and the solo has been changed from a more traditional fast heavy metal solo to a simpler and shorter one. In addition, the band and producer Bob Rock actually wanted Holier Than Thou to be the first single on the album. Drummer Lars Ulrich , however, worked to ensure that Enter Sandman would be the first single, believing it would sell better than the more traditional and heavy metal sounding Holier Than Thou .

The main riff is very similar to that of the song Get Stoned by the Finnish metal band Stone. The song was released back in 1988. The band's album containing this song was given to Metallica when they were visiting Finland . Therefore, there is speculation that the reef was not originally from Metallica. In 2003, former members of the now-defunct Californian metal band Excel were considering legal action against Metallica, claiming that Enter Sandman leaned heavily on their song Tapping Into the Emotional Void , which was released in 1989, two years before the Black Album , appeared on the LP The Joke's On You .

The song is often played at sporting events of various sports as it animates the audience well. The wrestler Jim Fullington went so far as its anti-hero - character in Extreme Championship Wrestling The Sandman to call. The Closer of the New York Yankees Mariano Rivera uses it as his input music, as does the pitcher of the New York Mets Billy Wagner. This is to express that the pitcher will bring the opposing team to sleep. The Cleveland Indians , the Virginia Tech Hokies football team (at home games) and the Virginia Cavaliers use the song to invade the players . NHL Toronto Maple Leafs and the AHL Toronto Marlies only used the main riff as input music . In Germany, for example, the song has been the running-in anthem of the Arminia Bielefeld club since the 2006/07 season .
