Sean Howard Kinney (born May 27, 1966 in Renton ) is an American musician. He became known in the early 1990s as the drummer of the influential grunge band Alice in Chains .

Kinney's musical talent was nurtured from an early age by his grandfather, who was a member of the band The Cross Cats . Kinney became a member of this formation at the age of nine.

Between 1989 and 1996 he recorded four albums and two EPs with Alice in Chains. After the band broke up, Kinney played on the two solo albums Boggy Depot (1998) and Degradation Trip by Jerry Cantrell , the guitarist of Alice in Chains. In 1998, in collaboration with Metallica , a cover version of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song Tuesday's Gone was created .

On the occasion of a benefit concert for the victims of the tsunami in the Indian Ocean, Kinney performed again in 2005 with the surviving members of Alice in Chains.
