From Göttingen to the next big city of Ulm in around 14 kilometers.

history

The "Gotingen" settlement probably originated as an Alemannic primeval village in the 6th or 7th century. Göttingen was first mentioned in a document in 1225 in the property register of the Oberelchingen monastery . The Protestant church “St. Justina ”(which many - including locals - refer to as St. Martin's Church) shapes the village. The village also has a smaller Catholic church, built in 1959, which is dedicated to Saint Martin.

On April 1, 1972, Göttingen was incorporated into the city of Langenau.

coat of arms

The town's coat of arms dates from 1954 and was designed by the Württemberg Archives Directorate in Stuttgart. The coat of arms has yellow and red as the basic colors, divided by a lily cut. Yellow and red are the colors of the coat of arms of the Benedictine monastery in Wiblingen . In the Middle Ages this owned the patronage right of the Göttingen church. The lily comes from the family coat of arms of the highly free lords of Albeck . The motif of the lily frieze is intended to be reminiscent of the Romanesque lily frieze, which is carved in brick-red color as a building sculpture on the very old and massive tower of the Göttingen Martinskirche.

politics

Municipal and local council

Since 1972 the people of Göttingen have been electing the Langenau municipal council together with the citizens of the core city of Langenau and the districts of Albeck and Hörvelsingen . Due to the false choice of part of the city , Göttingen has two mandates.

As a local municipal committee since 1972 is Ortschaftsrat added. It has nine members who, like the town council , are elected for five years. The local council should advise the local administration. He is to be heard before all important decisions concerning the location. The chairman of the body is the mayor. The honorary mayor is elected by the local council at the suggestion of the local council from among the citizens eligible for the local council and appointed as honorary official for a limited period. Mayor is Klaus-Dieter Ziegengeist.

Culture and club life, sights

Important venues are the Zehntstadel and the Wiesentalhalle.

Religious buildings

The late Gothic parish church of St. Justina (Protestant St. Martin's Church) is significant in terms of architectural history. The tower from the 14th century (up to the bell floor) is probably the oldest part. The bells date from 1436, 1440 and 1492. The church was rebuilt in the Baroque era, including the altar structure from 1699. The sacrament niche with the relief of the handkerchief of Saint Veronica around 1460 has been preserved. The church is surrounded by a medieval fortification. On the south side next to the gate building, humpback cubes from the Staufer period, probably from the 12th - 13th centuries, were built. The two-storey half-timbered gate construction, the gigl, also known as the guard house or toe house, still offers an impression of the former central defensive function of the churchyard.

Rectory, Zehntstadel and City Hall

The parsonage from the Baroque period and the Zehntstadel, together with a medieval barn, form a listed ensemble in the center of Göttingen. The stately rectory and the Zehntstadel date from around 1700. A previous building of the rectory is mentioned in 1580 for the first time. The old Zehntscheuer (parish barn) is a half-timbered building from around 1500, as evidenced by the Gothic stand preserved in the south-east corner of the building with its dovetail-shaped head braces.

The Catholic Church from 1959 is consecrated to Saint Martin

Clubs, sports, leisure and ecology

Stipfbach

Two soccer fields and the Wiesentalhalle are available for sports activities. SV Göttingen offers numerous sports activities. Those who want to be musically active can join the mixed choir of the choral society.

The premises in the “Walhalla” youth room are open to young people. The older generation meets regularly in the multipurpose room of the town hall. Fire brigade and rural women’s association offer further fields of activity.

Well-developed bike paths lead to Langenau , the surrounding communities and the "Alte Postweg" to Ulm . Nature conservation and landscape maintenance are of great importance. This includes the identification of green spaces and areas for site-appropriate biotope development. In order to preserve the traditional orchard meadow belt, large amounts of fruit trees were planted. Other ecological measures were the re-creation of a pond on the outskirts and the renaturation of the watercourses.

Festivals

The active participation in the activities of the Göttingen associations and groups as well as in the offers of the Protestant and Catholic parishes is an expression of an intact village community.

Every year, on the last weekend in August, the traditional Göttingen village festival takes place.
