Samuel Baur

Samuel Baur (born January 31, 1768 in Ulm , † May 25, 1832 in Göttingen near Ulm) was a German Evangelical Lutheran pastor and writer .

Life

Coming from a modest family, Baur was still able to attend grammar school. Then he studied from 1791, first in Jena and later in Tubingen theology . Already in his student years he devoted himself to the way historical and literary themes, which he finally until his death continued.

He gave his first sermons in Ulm, then became pastor in Burtenbach in 1794 , came to Göttingen in 1800, and finally in 1811 took over the position of dean in the Alpeck regional office .

From his marriage to Judith Christine Gerhard (1763–1824), two sons and three daughters survived him.

Baur published around 150 volumes of homiletic , pedagogical , historical and biographical content, not all of which is his own work, but rather came from translations or copies and amalgamations.
