Michael "Mike" Inez (born May 14, 1966 in San Fernando , California ) is an American rock musician and bassist for the bands Alice in Chains and Heart .

biography

Inez began playing guitar and saxophone as a teenager . At the end of the 1980s he began to play bass guitar , as the bassist position was often not occupied in the bands in which he played.

In 1990 Ozzy Osbourne was looking for musicians for his band and Inez was selected from over 50 musicians. After a major world tour, he was involved in the album No More Tears . In 1993 he appeared on the live album Live and Loud before he left the band and was replaced by Robert Trujillo .

That same year, Inez replaced Mike Starr in the grunge band Alice in Chains . Their album Dirt had been released shortly before and Inez went on tour with them. On the 1994 EP Jar of Flies (the first EP to conquer number one in the US charts), he played bass parts for the first time for the band. Inez also took part in the self-titled 1995 album and the appearance on MTV Unplugged 1996.

In 1995 Inez was involved as bassist in the solo debut of the former Guns N 'Roses guitarist Slash , but did not go on the subsequent tour. After Alice In Chains was shut down by the singer Layne Staley's drug problems in the summer of 1996, Inez supported other projects, including the solo by AIC colleague Jerry Cantrell or the heavy metal band Black Label Society founded by Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde . With Sean Kinney , Chris DeGarmo ( Queensryche ) and Vin ( Sponge ) he founded Spys 4 Darwin , which recorded an EP and toured the USA.

In 2002 Inez became bassist with Heart and was one of the closest contenders to replace Jason Newsted at Metallica . However, they decided on Inez's successor at Ozzy Osbourne, Robert Trujillo. For this he replaced it briefly at Black Label Society, for which he played the long player Hangover Music Vol. VI. played along with some songs.

In 2005 Inez initiated the reunification of Alice In Chains, initially for a concert in support of the victims of the tsunami in Asia . However, it was decided to work together longer and went on a world tour in the summer of 2006 with various guest singers, who replaced the late singer Layne Staley. The new album Black Gives Way To Blue was released in 2009, followed by The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here in 2013 .

Inez was a guest musician on Motörhead's Kiss of Death album in 2006 .
