Zakk Wylde (born January 14, 1967 in Bayonne , New Jersey , USA ; actually Jeffrey Phillip Wielandt ) is an American guitarist , pianist and singer .
Career
Wylde started playing guitar at the age of eight. Up to the age of 14 he played a. a. Songs by Elton John after. His guitar teacher brought him closer to the music of Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix . In 1987 Zakk Wylde joined Ozzy Osbourne 's band at the age of 20 . He is replacing Jake E. Lee , the successor to Randy Rhoads . Wylde had recently joined the band Zyris as a guitarist . In 1988 Wylde played the album No Rest for the Wicked with Osbourne ; Numerous other productions with Ozzy Osbourne followed over the years.
Among other things, Wylde founded two of his own formations: Pride & Glory , whose composition was strongly influenced by Southern Rock , and the Black Label Society , where Black Sabbath influences can be heard among other things . This group is his currently active solo project.
A characteristic of his guitar playing are the many pinch harmonics (artificial overtones) that he builds into the hard guitar riffs . Zakk Wylde names guitarists such as Randy Rhoads , Tony Iommi , Eddie van Halen , Al Di Meola , Paco de Lucía and Jimmy Page as inspirations for his playing and his work . Southern rock in the style of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers (his guest appearance can be heard on the bootleg Zakk Goes Wylde ) can also be found in his game.
2001 gave Wylde his acting debut in Stephen Herek's film Rockstar alongside Mark Wahlberg , Jennifer Aniston and fellow musician Myles Kennedy .
In 2010 Ozzy Osbourne ended the collaboration with Wylde and took guitarist Gus G. ( Firewind ) into his permanent line-up. The reason for the separation was his alcohol consumption. In his autobiography, Osbourne states that Wylde is "a very dangerous company for a dry alcoholic". In 2011 Wylde played on Jamey Jasta's solo debut Jasta .
In early 2012, Osbourne announced that they had brought Wylde back into the band as guitarist alongside Gus G. and Slash on his Ozzy And Friends Tour 2012. It was also confirmed that Black Label Society should also be the opening act for this tour - as in 2007 and 2010/2011.
In April 2016, Wylde's new acoustic solo work Book of Shadows II was released, which he presented at several solo concerts in the early summer of 2016.
Endorsement
In the 1990s, Gibson built a Les Paul Signature model with a bullseye look for Wylde , which has now become its visual trademark. He also owns a Gibson Flying V and various other bullseye-style guitars.
The amplifier manufacturer Marshall launched a signature edition of the JCM 800, the JCM 800 2203ZW, limited to 600 pieces. The ZW stands for Zakk Wylde. This was the second time another name had appeared on an amp alongside Jim Marshall . It is a reissue model with an effects loop. In addition to the slightly different look with bullseye and the Black Label Society logo, it differs technically only in the 4 power stage tubes 6550 instead of the EL34, which are used in the standard version of the 2203.
