No More Tears is the sixth studio album by musician Ozzy Osbourne . It was released in Germany on September 23, 1991. It is among his best-selling albums. It went quadruple platinum in the US . With the song I Don't Want to Change the World , Osbourne won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 1994 .

Origin and style

Among other things, the album was shaped by a cooperation with Lemmy Kilmister from Motörhead on the lyrics of four songs. Among them was the power ballad Mama I'm Coming Home , the first Top 40 hit in the USA for Ozzy Osbourne solo, as well as the Grammy-winning piece I Don't Want to Change the World . Metal-dominated songs could be heard as well as keyboard-backed quieter pieces such as Time After Time . Mr. Tinkertrain is about child abuse, the title track deals with a serial murder from the point of view of the criminals. Bassist Bob Daisley was only there for the album recordings and was replaced by Mike Inez on the subsequent tour . Inez, however, already contributed to the songwriting and is therefore recognized accordingly in the booklet: the intro riff of the title track comes from him. Originally Bob Rock was intended for the production, but he wanted to intervene too much in the songwriting in Osbourne's opinion , which the latter refused. The entire band was involved in the creation of the album.

reception

William Ruhlmann from Allmusic wrote that the album contained an unusually wide range of song material. Many songs would have had an “energetic, contemporary” metal sound. No More Tears was rated four out of five stars. In what was then Rock Hard , Götz Kühnemund called the album Osbourne's best since The Ultimate Sin from 1986. "Every single song is good to outstanding, and Zakk Wylde works his six strings like a young god." He awarded nine out of ten points. The Metal Hammer voted the record "Album of the Month". Martin Groß called it a "classic Ozzy album" with a "contemporary spirit". "Eleven convincing songs" "defiled" past the listener. He awarded the highest number of points with seven, the average of the editors the record received 6.1 points.
