Bark at the Moon is the third studio album by musician Ozzy Osbourne . It was released on December 10, 1983. 1995 and 2002 remastered versions appeared. Randy Rhoads , who had previously died in an aircraft accident, was replaced by Jake E. Lee . The album went triple platinum in the US.

Origin and style

It took Osbourne some time to recover from the death of his songwriting partner and friend Rhoads. Jake E. Lee (previously with Dio ) as the successor played less neoclassical, but more metal-oriented. The album produced by Max Norman still sold just as well as its predecessor. It also contained a ballad with strings, So Tired . The video for the title track, like Greg Cannom's album cover , was an MTV hit. Carmine Appice can be seen in the video , although Tommy Aldridge played the drums during the recording. Moreover, it is Gary Moore -Keyboarder Don Airey be heard as a guest musician.

reception

Bark at the Moon reached number 19 on the Billboard 200 and received quite positive reviews. Uwe Lerch from Rock Hard praised the “great solos” by Jake E. Lee, but criticized the first page of the album including the title track as “weak”. The second side is better, especially the "totally crazy" Spiders and Waiting For Darkness , he emphasized. He rated the album seven out of ten. Steve Huey from Allmusic, on the other hand, liked the title song described as "crunching", he described the album as a successful, "competent" "set" of heavy metal pieces. It awarded three out of five stars.
