Kiss of Death is the eighteenth studio album by the British band Motörhead , released on August 29, 2006 .

History of origin

As with the previous album Inferno seemed Cameron Webb as a producer with. The commitment of guest musicians to contribute to some of the songs is typical for the development of the last albums . On God Was Never on Your Side , Poison's CC DeVille played the guitar solo . Another guest is Mike Inez from Alice in Chains , who plays the bass on Under the Gun .

Music genre

Motörhead's style of music has hardly changed since the 1980s. A few elements from other genres were added to this album. Under the Gun contains Blues , Christine Boogie-Woogie and Trigger NWoBHM elements. With God Was Never on Your Side , the ballad, which has been mandatory since the album in 1916, is also represented.

reception

For Götz Kühnemund from Rock Hard , the album was “a return to classic MOTÖRHEAD terrain”, which is why he preferred it to Inferno . He rated it 8.5 out of 10.

In the Eclipsed it achieved 9 out of 10 points. Thorsten Pöttger identified Lemmy's “favorite subjects”, namely sex and religion, and then described the musical implementation: “[Lemmy's] singing may never have been as good as it is today. It should be pointed out that there are also two other musicians. The attentive listener will notice the sometimes unusual drums and guitar playing [...]. "

The Neue Zürcher Zeitung wrote : “[...] the new album 'Kiss of Death' [is] no better or worse than the previous ones. Again next to the ubiquitous, unimaginative, so born out of sheer necessity, there are a few tracks that surprise with a pretty hook or a catchy melody line (especially in 'Trigger' and in 'Sword of Glory'). And the sinister elegy, which has meanwhile become well-established, with the plaintive singing that almost breaks in the high registers ('God was Never on Your Side') can also be heard. But that's not what it's about, it's about the suggestiveness and the credibility of the distinction offered . And they decrease quickly. "

The customer magazine of the retail chain WOM pointed out: "Your new record 'Kiss of Death' is one of the other classics and manages, as always, to create the unmistakable Motörhead sound with hard rock and fast guitar riffs."

The album got 3.5 out of 5 stars on Allmusic .

success

Kiss of Death reached number four in the German album charts, the highest position of a studio album by the band to date. The album also made it into the top 10 in other European countries. In England it only reached # 45.
