Sacrifice is the twelfth studio album by the British heavy metal band Motörhead . It was the last album of the band with the second guitarist Würzel .

Emergence

After completing the tour of the previous album Bastards , Motörhead left the ZYX Music label and switched to CBH , the record label of their German promoter Rainer Hänsel . With the change of label, the band no longer had a distribution partner for North America. By then Sacrifice initially only available as an import there until the Independent Label CMC took over the distribution of the finished album for North America and the album released there on 11 July 1995th

The recordings were made by Howard Benson produced . Because he also worked as A&R for Giant Records , much of the album production was done by sound engineer Ryan Dorn on instructions from Benson. Already during the studio sessions problems with guitarist Würzel became apparent, who left the band shortly after the album was released. The band had ten studio days for the recordings. At the end of the booked recording time, Lemmy Kilmister had a cold, but a new recording of the vocal tracks was no longer possible. Because of this, Kilmister was not happy with the vocals on some tracks.

Reviews

The magazine Intro writes that the album fits in seamlessly with the great classics, the times of compromises are over and the band let "the bass drum thunder and the guitars saw". Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic notes that the album offers nothing new, it is straightforward, fast, loud and with surprisingly catchy melodies. He sums up that it is a pleasing and entertaining record from one of the most enduring metal bands in history. Götz Kühnemund describes Sacrifice as a "surprisingly hard disc" that covers the spectrum from the "goodtime rocker 'Don't Waste Your Time' to the double bass hit 'Sacrifice'".
