Peter Gill (born June 9, 1951 in Sheffield ) is a British drummer who was active in various rock music and heavy metal bands . He played with The Glitter Band , Gary Glitter's backing band , as well as with Saxon and Motörhead .

Musical career

Pete Gill started his musical career in 1972 as one of two drummers of the Glittermen , the backing band of Gary Glitter . The band accompanied Glitter during his chart successes Rock & Roll (Parts 1 & 2) and I Didn't Know I Loved You (Til I Saw You Rock N Roll) in 1972 and Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah) and Hello Hello I'm Back Again in 1973. He left the band when they split from Gary Glitter and renamed The Glitter Band .

In 1978, Gill was one of the founding members of the heavy metal band Son of a Bitch (SOB), which was founded in 1977 and renamed Saxon in 1978 . He played with Saxon until 1982 and left the band after a hand injury after they were successful with their fourth album Denim and Leather (1981) and wanted to go on tour. At that time Saxon was one of the most successful bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWoBHM) and toured with Motörhead and other bands. From 1984 to 1987 he played himself as a drummer for Motörhead, replacing Phil Taylor , better known as Philthy Animal . Gill played on the best-of album No Remorse (1984) and on the band's seventh studio album, Orgasmatron , in 1986 , but was dismissed after differences with Lemmy Kilmister and replaced by the returning Taylor.

In 1996 Pete Gill recorded the album Victim You as Son of a Bitch (SOB) with his former bandmates from Saxon, bassist Steve Dawson and guitarist Graham Oliver .
