Edward Allan "Fast Eddie" Clarke (born October 5, 1950 in Twickenham , † January 10, 2018 in London ) was a British rock guitarist. He became known to a wider audience as the guitarist of the English band Motörhead .

life and career

Clarke was a member of the classic Motörhead line-up with Lemmy Kilmister and Phil Taylor from 1976 to 1982 . Clarke's most important achievements during this period include the albums Overkill , Bomber , Ace of Spades and Iron Fist , with which the British made their international breakthrough.

The live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith , released in 1981, was the first rock live album to hit number 1 in the UK charts . Clarke was considered one of the outstanding guitarists on the island at this time, but this was more due to Motörhead's surprising success and revolutionary music style than to his technical skills.

After disagreement about the musical career of the band, he left the group during the Iron Fist tour in North America in the spring of 1982 and was replaced by Brian Robertson . Clarke founded his own band Fastway , with which he was unable to build on the international success with Motörhead.

On January 10, 2018, Clarke died at the age of 67 in a hospital where he was being treated for pneumonia .
