Rainer Hänsel (born May 4, 1954 ; † October 3, 2017 in Wethen ) was a German producer , concert and tour organizer .

life and career

Hansel grew up in Nuremberg and, after graduating from high school, studied German, social studies and history with the aim of teaching at the Faculty of Education (PH) of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg .

In order to finance his studies, he first posted posters for the local concert directorate in Hörtnagel at night and worked his way up the staff in the event area. Hansel grew quickly with his duties and began to organize concerts himself. This is how he got to know Fritz Rau , in whose footsteps he followed as a regional organizer and who became a foster father for him when he opened his own concert office in Schwanstetten in Central Franconia . From 1975 onwards, Hänsel held regular concerts in the Hemmerleinhalle . Without any commercial training, Hänsel organized successful open-air concerts on the Nuremberg Zeppelin Field in the summer months , for example with Chicago , Thin Lizzy and Udo Lindenberg , Bob Dylan and The Who and in 1977 with Santana .

In the early 1980s, Hansel was also responsible for the Nuremberg offshoot of the Monsters of Rock Festival, the forerunner of today's rock im Park series of events at the same location .

In the mid-1980s, Hansel increasingly turned away from festival operations and increasingly focused on his work as a producer and promoter in the heavy rock sector . In 1988 the end of the Hemmerleinhalle came. From then on, Hansel produced more than 160 albums, for example with Saxon , Talon , Trapeze and Molly Hatchet .

In 1993 he was able to briefly win Motörhead for his record label CBH Records , which, however, had only moderate success. In 2012 he founded the label Hänsel & Gretel with Manfred Schütz .

As a personal weakness, Hänsel was on tour around the world with Manowar for decades .

Private

Hansel had had diabetes since 1987 . He has been married several times and has a daughter. Most recently he lived in a secluded place in Wethen on the Hessian-Westphalian border, where he died at the beginning of October 2017 at the age of 63.
