Kay Hanley (born September 11, 1968 in Dorchester , Massachusetts) is an American rock musician . She is best known as the singer in the band Letters to Cleo .

Life

Hanley was a member of the band "Letters to Cleo", which was founded in 1990 and disbanded in 2000. Not only was she the main singer in the band, but the name came from her: She used to have a pen pal named "Cleo".

In 1999 she played together with her band in the film “ 10 things I hate about you ”.

When her band's career came to an end, Hanley began performing outside of the band with her husband and band member Michael Eisenstein . At the same time, their daughter Zoe was born.

After that, Hanley started a solo career. In 2002 she released her first solo album entitled "Cherry Marmalade". In the same year a CD was released with Dropkick Murphys / Face to Face, on which she was a guest singer. There she sings in the original version of Dropkick Murphy's song "The Dirty Glass". She also recorded the song "Follow-me" for the video game "Sonic Heroes" in 2003. In 2004 she brought out a follow-up track to the song “Cherry Marmalade”, the “Babydoll EP”. She is very involved in the Boston aid organization "Hot Stove, Cool Music". In 2004 she and her husband Michael Eisenstein had their second child, Henry Aaron.

For the soundtrack of the film As long as you are (OT: Just Like Heaven ) by Reese Witherspoon , she recorded a cover version of Iggy Pop's Lust for Life .
