The Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (formerly Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center ) is an event center in Birmingham , Alabama that includes the 19,000-seat Legacy Arena , 3,000-seat concert hall, 20,440 m² exhibition hall, and theater with the capacity of 1,000 seats as well as various other facilities.

history

The Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center was designed by the architects Geddes Brecher Qualls Cunningham after they had won the American Institute of Architects' largest architectural competition at the time. The arena was built between 1974 and 1976 for an estimated US $ 104 million . One criterion for the competition was a connection of the adjacent Interstate 59 / Interstate 20 between the Civic Center and the administrative and cultural facilities of Linn Park to the south . To date, however, no adequate solution to the problem has been found.
