Spagna (born December 16, 1956 in Valeggio sul Mincio , Province of Verona ; actually Ivana Spagna ) is an Italian pop singer and songwriter . She was very successful internationally in the late 1980s with several dance hits.

biography

Spagna began her career by participating in smaller singing competitions until she released her first single Mamy Blue for Dischi Ricordi in 1971 . She worked as a background singer, performed in discos with her brother Theo and wrote advertising jingles . Between 1983 and 1985 she was part of the duo Fun Fun and released other singles under the pseudonyms Mirage and Yvonne Kay . With the single Easy Lady , released in 1986 under her surname, she achieved a number one hit in Italy in 1986 and then a Europe-wide dance success. A year later she landed another hit with the single Call Me . It rose to number two in the UK and number 13 on Billboard magazine's dance chart in the United States . In the same year Spagna released her debut album Dedicated to the Moon .

After the release of Dance - rock - album You Are My Energy and a minor hit with the title Every Girl and Boy moved Spagna to the record company Sony , moved to the United States over and settled in Santa Monica down. There she produced her third album No Way Out , with which she turned back to disco- pop. After releasing a greatest hits album, she returned to Europe in 1993. In the same year she recorded the album Matter of Time . She had her last European hit in 1994 with Lady Madonna .

From then on Ivana Spagna only recorded new songs in her mother tongue. In 1995 she took part in the Festival di Sanremo for the first time: with the title Gente come noi she reached third place. Her first Italian-language album Siamo in due was subsequently released . Also in 1996 she was in Sanremo in the race, reaching te E io penso a fourth. In the next few years four more albums followed and further Sanremo participations in 1998 and 2000 . Only after separating from Sony Music in 2003 did Spagna return to its beginnings under the umbrella of the independent Swiss label B&G and release a dance-pop album sung in English.

She later appeared on Italian television in February 2006 as part of the Sanremo Festival (with Noi non possiamo cambiare she missed the final) and in May 2006 on the reality show Music Farm . In addition, the singer released other albums and songs in both Italian and English. In 2008 she supported Loredana Bertè at the Sanremo Festival and sang the duet Musica e parole with her . With quasi una confessione! Tutto quello che non ho mai detto , she published her first autobiography in 2011.

Since March 30, 2019 she has been an honorary citizen of Valeggio sul Mincio .
