Womanizer (English for " womanizer ") is a song by American pop - singer Britney Spears from her sixth studio album Circus , which was written by Nikesha Briscoe and Rafael Akinyemi (The Outsyders) and produced.
background
The first single from Circus was Womanizer released in September of 2008. The single reached 1st place on the US Billboard Hot 100 - Spears second number 1 hit after her debut single … Baby One More Time from 1999. The single was produced and written by the then unknown producer team The Outsyders . Furthermore, the singer was able to set three records with the song, because with 285,782 download sales from Womanizer , these are the highest sales within the opening week in the Billboard download charts since the charts were introduced in 2003. The record holder so far was Mariah Carey with Touch My Body and 285,544 sales. Jumping 96 places, it continued to break TIs Live Your Life's record of 80th place to 1 for the biggest jump to # 1 in the history of the US Billboard Hot 100 . At the same time, Womanizer is the single that has improved the most within the top 100. The record so far has been held by Beyoncé with Shakira , who once covered 91 positions within the Hot 100 with Beautiful Liar .
Music video
The video clip for the single was directed by Joseph Khan, with whom Spears previously worked on the videos for Stronger (2000) and Toxic (2004). The video was shot on September 24th and 25th, 2008 in Los Angeles in several restaurants and clubs. There are some parallels between the new and the two older video clips that were made with Khan. The opening sequence in Womanizer is similar to that of Stronger . Furthermore, a supporting character who can be seen in the copy room scene of the new clip has already taken on a role in Toxic . The video was named "Best Pop Video" at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards .

In the USA over three million copies could be sold, which means three times platinum. So Womanizer is Spears' most successful single there, even more commercially successful than … Baby One More Time . The single with (You Drive Me) Crazy is also the singer's most successful US radio single.
Womanizer also reached number 1 in the respective single charts in Canada, France, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Israel, Brazil, Turkey, Croatia, Singapore, Belgium, Poland and China . In Germany the first single from the sixth studio album reached number 4, in Austria also and in Switzerland number 2.
In Australia, the song made it to number 5, going platinum for over 70,000 copies sold, while in the UK the single first took up number 4 through downloads and rose to number 3 about a month later through CD release. To date, the single has sold over 400,000 copies in the UK and has been awarded gold. Womanizer was also awarded platinum in Canada (1st place) as well as in Denmark.
While the album Circus was voted album of the year 2008 by Allheadlinenews.com , Womanizer also made it to number 1 on the list of the best songs in 2008. For the reason: “The song with the repetitive chorus received the greatest number of votes will probably get stuck in the minds of listeners through 2009. [...] Britney's dance / pop return begins with roaring sirens. It may even be their most infectious single yet. And for the record: She says the word "Womanizer" about 35 times. "
Womanizer was nominated for a Grammy in 2010 in the “Best Dance Recording” category, but it didn't get any results . In Poland , Womanizer was also nominated for the Polish Grammy Frederyky Awards and won in the International Digital Song of the Year category, making it the best-selling international download of 2009 there.

Womanizer was sung for promotional purposes on the television shows The X Factor , Star Academy , Good Morning America and Bambi in 2008 and was also part of Spears' Circus tour. In 2011 she sang the song during her Femme Fatale tour . It is also part of their current Las Vegas show Britney: Piece of Me .
