The Circus Starring: Britney Spears , commonly known as the "Circus Tour", was the seventh concert tour by the American pop singer Britney Spears based on her sixth studio album Circus . The tour took place in North America, Europe and Australia.

It was her first world tour in five years, following the Onyx Hotel Tour in 2004. The tour is the most commercially successful tour of 2009 and after 48 shows grossed around $ 74.6 million.

Shortly after the premiere of her new song "Womanizer" on the New York radio station Z100, Spears announced that she would start her worldwide tour in spring 2009. Rehearsals for the tour began in January 2009, in preparation for a kick-off in March. After a short time, the 1,000,000 tickets in Europe were sold out.

On March 3, 2009, the tour started in New Orleans . The introduction was moderated by Perez Hilton and initially supported by magicians and other entertainers in order to strengthen the effect of the circus. Tour promoter John Meglen spoke to the Las Vegas Sun about the tour: "It's one of the biggest and best-selling tours of the decade."
