background

The song was released on August 23, 1999 by Jive Records as the third single from the album. The song was written and produced by Per Magnusson, Jörgen Elofsson, David Kreuger and Max Martin . The single version is different from the original album version on … Baby One More Time , which was recorded in March 1998 in Sweden . On May 12, 1999, Martin and Spears got together in the Battery Studios in New York and produced The Stop! Remix that was used as a single version.

Music video

The music video accompanying the song was shot by Nigel Dick. Speaking of the video, Spears said in an interview with MTV, "It would be cool to be in a club, and we're silly waitresses, and we break out and start dancing." Spears was also convinced that the video would bring her " to the next level. ”The video also promoted the film Drive Me Crazy , so the two main actors Melissa Joan Hart and Adrian Grenier should also appear in the music video. Grenier was opposed to the idea, but Dick ultimately convinced him. The video was first broadcast on July 18, 1999 in the program Making the Video on the music channel MTV. As an additional promotion for the film, which was released on October 1, 1999, the video was released a week before on September 24, 1999, in the TV series Sabrina - Totally Verhext! shown in episode 4x01 (including guest appearance by Britney Spears).

The video begins with Spears and other women in waitress costumes going into the locker room and doing their makeup and changing there. Then she performs a dance choreograph with other people in her new outfit. The setting is based on a modern club.
