Me Against the Music (English for: " Me against the music ") is a song by the American pop singer Britney Spears from her fourth studio album In the Zone . The song was recorded with Madonna . During rehearsals for the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards , Spears auditioned Madonna and asked her to record the song with her. The song was released on October 20, 2003 as the lead single from In the Zone through Jive Records .

Me Against the Music received mixed reviews from critics. Some said it was a strong dance track while others said the song was lackluster and disappointing. The song became a commercial success and reached the top ranking in countries like Australia , Denmark , Hungary , Ireland and Spain . It also ranked second in Canada , Italy , Norway and the United Kingdom. In other European countries, Me Against the Music was placed in the top 5; in the USA only 35th place could be achieved. The song won the 2004 Billboard Music Awards Hot Dance Single of the Year award. The accompanying music video shows Spears and Madonna as opposites in a nightclub. A game of cat and mouse ensues that ends with Spears finding Madonna. But it disappears into thin air just before a kiss occurs. The video received positive reviews from critics.

Me Against the Music has been covered by the French group Justice , among others . The music video was re-shot from the US series Glee to match Spears' episode "Britney / Brittany", and it also includes a short appearance by Spears himself.
