Something to Remember is the title of the first ballads - Compilation of Madonna from 1995. Overall, it is their eleventh album release. The album is named after the song of the same name.
background
After Madonna was hired by Andrew Lloyd Webber to play the leading role in the musical adaptation of Evita , fans and critics alike should be prepared for this new role: The aim was to get rid of the image of the scandalous dominatrix that she had built up with the albums Erotica and Bedtime Stories . The ballad collection Something to Remember combines successful singles such as Crazy for You , Live to Tell and Rain with songs that were not previously available on Madonna albums, such as This Used to Be My Playground and I'll Remember . It also contains songs that were never released as singles ( Something To Remember by I'm Breathless and Forbidden Love by Bedtime Stories ).
The first new song I Want You , a cover version of the Marvin Gaye classic, was first released on the Inner City Blues soundtrack , and a video was also made for it. However, the song met with rejection on US radio stations: the orchestral version and the remix of Massive Attack did not fit into the radio concept there. Ultimately, however, legal disputes prevented a single release entirely.
The unexpected radio success of Take a Bow in the USA inspired the video sequel to the newly written song You'll See , which made it into the charts worldwide and was released in advance. The Spanish-sung version of Veras was recorded for the Latin American market , for which a separate video version was also produced. The third new song One More Chance , an unspectacular acoustic song , was only released in Europe, but received no attention. The last single was the song Love Don't Live Here Anymore from 1984 re-released - in a slightly revised version. This too, promoted by a simple video, was not very successful. The dancemixes that had already been produced were no longer officially published and were only found on promosingles and later on bootlegs . A new release of Crazy for You did not materialize either: Tony Moran's completed dance ceremonies did not appear on internet exchanges until the late 1990s .
Overall, the audience liked the compilation. The album sold extremely well with over eight million copies and the desired image change, supported by a classic Versace advertising campaign, was a success: After the sex excesses of recent years, which were not commercially successful, the audience was prepared for her role as Evita - and Madonna's music was back in the foreground.
