Live to Tell is a song by Madonna from the year 1986 , that and her Patrick Leonard was written. It was also used for the soundtrack to the film On Short Distance .
history
After Madonna finished her The Virgin Tour , she recorded the album True Blue with Patrick Leonard and Stephen Bray . Originally, Live to Tell was to be part of the soundtrack for Fire with Fire , but since Paramount Pictures did not appreciate Leonard's songwriting qualities, the song was not used for this film. When Madonna found out that her husband at the time, Sean Penn, was starring in the film On Short Distance, she saw her chance to include the song as part of this soundtrack. After the director James Foley listened to a demo of the song, this was approved.
Live to Tell was released worldwide on March 26, 1986. The ballad became a number one hit in the United States , Canada and Italy .
Music video
The music video was directed by James Foley, who also wrote Papa Don't Preach and True Blue . In the plot of the video, Madonna offers the song in a dark studio, while fadeouts show scenes from the film At Short Distance .
