Borderline is a pop song by Madonna , which was released in February 1984 as the fifth and final single from her first album, which was released in 1983 . It was written by Reggie Lucas and produced by him and John "Jellybean" Benitez .

history

In 1982, work on Madonna's first album began, previously Madonna and Reggie Lucas had put together the intended songs. Lucas later added borderline , after the recordings Madonna was dissatisfied with the overall result. In Madonna's opinion, the hit was supposedly too instrumental, which led to a dispute. For the published version, John "Jellybean" Benitez reworked the song according to Madonna's wishes.

It was first published on February 15, 1984. The song became a top 40 worldwide hit, and when it was re-released in 1986, Borderline made it to number one in Ireland .

Music video

The music video was directed by Mary Lambert , who also directed Like a Virgin and Material Girl . It was filmed in Los Angeles from January 30th to February 2nd, 1984 . Madonna and her friends breakdance at the beginning , then a manager discovers them and they both drive to a studio in a car. In the studio, Madonna shows a performance next to a few sets and in front of a few cameras, a photographer takes pictures and then looks at the pictures. After she comes out of a phone booth, some scenes with Madonna's friends are shown. In one scene, she tries to flirt with a man who goes away after that and Madonna in a bar while playing billiards is met again. In the kiosk, the man sees a photo of Madonna on a magazine. Now Madonna rejects him and sprays the scenery, while she is also photographed. At the end, Madonna plays pool with her friends.
