Causing a Commotion ( English for causing a riot ') is a song of American singer Madonna from the soundtrack of the film Who's That Girl of 1987. He was appointed as the second single from the album on 25 August 1987 Sire Records released and became Top 10 success in some countries.

Origin and content

Causing a Commotion was written and produced by Madonna and Stephen Bray . The lyrics were inspired by Madonna's relationship with her then-husband Sean Penn and his propensity for violence.

Madonna also said on the subject:

"I don't like violence. I never condone hitting anyone, and I never thought that any violence should have taken place. But on the other hand, I understood Sean's anger and believe me, I have wanted to hit them [the paparazzi ] many times. I never would, you know, because I realize that it would just make things worse. "

The song contains a "dance-oriented up-tempo groove" and begins with the refrain . It is accompanied by a descending bassline with four notes and staccato chords in the verse. Musically, the piece moves in the field of dance pop .

The song received mixed to positive reviews. It became a top 10 hit in the United States (number two), Australia , Canada , Ireland , Italy , New Zealand , Sweden, and the United Kingdom (number four), and topped the Billboard US dance charts . Madonna played the song on the Who's That Girl world tour - broadcast via satellite at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1987 - and on the Blond Ambition world tour in 1990.
