Dress You Up is a 1985 song by Madonna written by Andrea LaRusso and Peggy Stanziale. Nile Rodgers produced the song. It appeared on the album Like a Virgin in November 1984 . The release as the fifth and final single from it took place on July 31, 1985. The song became a top five hit in the US and UK .

Music and lyrics

It is a characteristic dance track with two-chord verses played with synthesizer drums, but it also contains a four-chord sequence. Choir singing from background singers can be heard in the chorus. Madonna sings about the clothes she wants to please her husband and let him stroke her.

controversy

The song was included in its list of the "Filthy Fifteen" because of its sexual content rated as "objectionable" by the American Parents Music Resource Center . Rolling Stone magazine later described this nomination as "curious".
