Aruna Abrams

Aruna Beth Abrams (born January 16, 1975 ) is an American singer-songwriter and keyboard player. Under her stage name Aruna she is known as the vocalist of several trance hits.

Life

Aruna grew up in New Jersey and has played the piano since childhood. She studied music synthesis and film music at Berklee College of Music . After her sophomore year she took a two year hiatus to move to Miami . There she played in the band Portal , which formed in 1994 from the remaining members of the death metal band Cynic after they broke up. Aruna was active as a singer and keyboard player. After Portal disbanded in 1996, she finished her studies and then moved to Los Angeles , where she still lives today.

Her song "Break You Open" won first prize at the USA Songwriting Competition in the Pop category, beating 30,000 other entries. In 2004 she released her debut album Running Red Lights .

One of her most successful productions was her song "I Got Nerve", which she wrote with two other songwriters. The song was recorded by Hannah Montana and was released on the Hannah Montana Soundtrack in October 2006, which sold over 2 million copies in two months and debuted at # 1 on the Billboard Top 200 . The song I Got Nerve came 67th on the Billboard Hot 100 .

Aruna came to electronic dance music in 2007 with the hit single "Waiting Here For You", a collaboration with The Thrillseekers . The single reached number 5 on the Dutch dance charts. Since then, Aruna has worked with several trance artists, including DJ Shah , ATB and Cosmic Gate , and has co-produced more than ten club hits.

After they had already produced the single “Helpless” in 2009 with the Hungarian trance duo Márió Égető and Előd Császár (better known as Myon & Shane 54 ), the trio released the single “Safe (Wherever You Are)” in 2010 under the pseudonym Velvetine . On October 22nd, 2010 her debut single "Let Go" was released.
